Ratatype offers a typing certificate based on your test results. It gives you a simple way to show an employer, school or client that your keyboard skills have been measured, not just claimed.
Why a certificate is worth having
Many jobs list typing speed as a requirement: data entry, transcription, customer support, administration and many writing roles. A certificate with a clear WPM and accuracy figure answers that requirement in one line, and it shows you took the time to train the skill properly.
Prepare like it is the real thing
Your certificate reflects one result, so it pays to aim for a good day. Practise as normal for a week beforehand, sleep well, and take the test when you are fresh. Follow the same warm-up routine you use for any typing test.
What score to aim for
There is no single right number, but these ranges are a useful guide:
- Around 40 WPM with high accuracy is a solid everyday level.
- 50 to 60 WPM is a strong result for most office work.
- 70 WPM and above stands out for typing-heavy roles.
Accuracy should stay high in every case. An employer will trust a careful 50 WPM more than a messy 75.
Using your certificate
Add the result to the skills section of your CV, for example "Touch typing: 58 WPM, 97% accuracy". Mention it in applications where speed is listed. If the role involves testing, your training means you will be calm and ready for it.
Keep improving afterwards
A certificate is a point in time. Keep practising, and retake the test when you have clearly improved, so your proof stays up to date.
